ScreenSkills mentoring to be delivered by Screen Northants for Northamptonshire residents wanting to enter the Film Industry

ScreenSkills Mentoring in association with Screen Northants Academy is a free mentoring programme for Northamptonshire residents 18yrs and above who are looking to enter the Film Industry. This is a programme aimed at new entrants interested in ‘below the line’ positions. Successful applicants will be paired with an industry mentor in an appropriate field for monthly face-to-face or virtual mentoring sessions over 6 months, with additional training from Skills Channel TV and support from Screen Northants. This initiative is supported by ScreenSkills, the industry-led skills body for the UK’s screen industries, using National Lottery funds awarded by the BFI as part of the Future Film Skills programme.

Screen Northants are looking for people living in Northants who are over 18yrs who are seriously considering a career in Film but may not yet have worked in the industry or have limited experience, and encourage applications from all backgrounds and communities including those currently under-represented in Film. ‘Below the line’ positions refer to the production team and do not include the Writer, Director and Producer. ‘Below the line’ includes Cinematographers, Editors, Costume Designers, Make Up Artists, VFX technicians, Construction, the Lighting department, Grips, Sound Recordists and Location Managers.

Becky Adams, Producer at Screen Northants says, “Northamptonshire has been woefully under-represented in the world of Film and we’re really excited to be working with ScreenSkills to offer local residents the chance to be mentored by a film professional with local connections to take their career to the next level.”

Those interested in applying to the scheme should email or write to Screen Northants (next to HMV), 1 Princes Walk, Grosvenor Centre, Northampton, NN1 2EL to express their interest, including the role type they are interested in and any relevant experience they’ve had already (if any) as well as contact details. Screen Northants will then be in contact to discuss the opportunity with you. Shortlisted applicants will be offered an informal interview. There are 25 places available in this initiative and all successful candidates will need to register for a free profile with ScreenSkills. If you need to reach Screen Northants another way you can also call/text on 07930 646721.
